This is certainly the buzz of the Green Community: The $165 million library complex is the first presidential library to earn an award from the U.S. Green Committee for environmental design. This past November, workers placed 90 species of plants and more than four truckloads of soil on top of the William J. Clinton Presidential Library and Museum in Little Rock, Arkansas, thus creating a garden that surrounds the former President's penthouse apartment on top of the library. The soil will insulate the building, thus reducing energy consumption of the massive structure. Guests to the library will not be permitted to tour the garden. But, exhibits below will demonstrate the benefits of an earthen roof. It is the desire of the former President to promote eco-friendly building practices via example. Photo by Inhabitat.
